St Xavier's School, located in Godavari, Nepal, about 15 k.m. outside the capital, is a school started by Jesuit Fathers in 1951. After the initial start of the school and due to increasing number of students, the primary school was shifted to Jawalakhel (St. Xavier's School, Jawalakhel) and the high school at Godavari. In 1969, due to ever growing demands for admittance in the school, St Xavier's Godavari was turned into a full-fledged primary school and St Xavier's Jawalakhel was turned into a full-fledged high school. In 1996, another major decision turned the school into a co-educational day school, focused on educating children from the local community.[2]
St Xavier's is one of the biggest, oldest and the most prestigious schools in Nepal. For most of its existence it was an all-boys school. St Xavier's started admitting girls in 2001. St. Xavier's consists of three schools in Nepal all operated by Jesuits. The three schools are located in Godavari, Lalitpur and Maitighar (St Xavier's College) sections of Kathmandu valley
